Lawrence Braymer, the founder and designer of the
Questar, adopted M42 as the coupling mount for
the telescope in 1952. Questar referred to this
as "P Mount" (for Praktica Mount) in
contravention to the T-Mounts used by other
telescope brands such as Swift and Unitron. (M42
is 42mm by 1mm DIN, while T-Mount is 42mm by 0.75mm DIN.)
