Others have answered your basic question, so I'd only add
that you might find the details of Leica's recent history
interesting. Herr Kaufmann has taken a "long view", deciding
that Leica's future lies in its tradition of providing top
quality, innovative products. It was one of the conceptual
incompatibilities that led to the dismissal of Mr. Lee as
CEO about a year ago, and although it is not a simple
solution, I think it may be a business model that could
serve the likes of the Detroit automakers well; capitalize
on your strengths and stop screwing around with fads.
