Its cut with a carbide tip scriber, they are cheap and available at Home Depot or any Tru-Value hardware store. The original mirror is in a frame and appears to be fastened with some sort of heavy lacquer, perhaps even a wax compound. In any case it responds to solvents or mild heat. No need to break it out as one old-timer suggests in his article on repairing rangefinders. You can use shellac or airplane glue to fasten in the new one. I don't know why the reflecting surface on some Kalart mirrors fades. It seems very old ones and newer ones don't have the problem but many middle aged Kalarts do. The hardest thing is to make sure the reflective coating is facing the eyepiece. If the mirror is turned around it will change all the settings.
