Well, the primary difference is perhaps that MBG is standard language in USian classified ads -- many newspapers put it at the front of the classifieds as part of a list of such terms. I have never heard of ANR or MGB.

ANR could be, for instance, "all nonsense resisted" or "Alaska Nudist Reservation" or "Alabama Nut Resort" or "Albanian Nebbish Revulsion". And MGB you stand for, well, the Morris Garage MG B, follow on to the MG A. Or perhaps it means, "Monaco, the land of Giga Bucks" or "Morocco, Guaranteed Baksheesh" or "Mongolia: the Gobi's Backyard".

You asked for it. I can come up with dozens more.

I do agree that it is a dangerous practice to use an undefined acronym or initialism. I had, donkey's years back, assumed from my own bi-coastal experience that everyone must know what MBG meant, and this clearly is not the case, albeit this is the first query I have had in 15 or 16 years. I shall try to remember to spell it out next time to aid the hard of thinking or those limited in life experience.
