He was very right wing but not like Marc. There was a mean quality in Romney which is completely absent in Marc's thinking. I don't think Romney was a nice person, Marc definitely is. That _does_ make a difference.

You got that right! Romney was a vile and bitter man. Because I said that Philips screwdrivers were not the same as cross-point, something he never would believe, he got it in his head that I was trying to destroy his business of selling Philips screwdrivers for camera repair. He wrote threatening, abusive letters to me, and wrote to Glenn Patch repeatedly trying to get me fired from my job at Shutterbug magazine. Glenn had to get a lawyer involved and there was talk of a restraining order, although I don't know if one was ever put into effect.

Romney believed that there was a vast Jewish conspiracy to control the world, and that this conspiracy had taken over the photo industry and was directing its efforts at destroying his business. He believed they were threatened by his advice on how to save money. He got it into his head that I was the head of this conspiracy in the photo industry (in spite of the fact that I'm not Jewish!). I have a file of his hateful letters here. It got worse when he discovered the internet! I believe he was genuinely demented, and it got worse as he got older.

In the history of photography, Ed Romney is best forgotten.
