Richard,

When you say "right wing", that presupposes the existence of
a central body and a left wing. Those other political parts did
not exist for Romney. For example, he highly recommended
the "Turner Diaries" as his type of thinking.

Well, I agree that ultimately terms like right or left wing or even liberal and conservative are without a lot of meaning, or, rather, the meaning, like beauty, is in the eyes of the beholder (or ears of the auditor). They are meant as shorthand for things not easily explained. I consider myself a liberal but find that I often agree with those who call themselves conservatives. Despite the objections I am sure this will get I don't think either term really represents a consistent philosophy. What I really object to is the name calling. This is mostly done to create an atmosphere of anger where logic is utterly dissipated. Anger usually makes people stupid so its easy to get away with some sort of completely irrational argument if you get people's blood up. Radio talk show hosts are masters of this. Remember, their primary purpose is to sell things to people that they don't need and don't want. You want to dumb down the audience to so that they are gullible. The atmosphere of the bar room brawl is ideal for this.
So, was Stalin a liberal or conservative, how about Hitler, George Washington?
I sometimes kiddingly call myself a Left Wing, Commie Pinko Liberal Democrat but in fact I am far from being a communist. Its a failed system and one which requires great concentration of power, which I think is always to be avoided. Does that make me a conservative, perhaps in some ways but I also belive that the power of the people is sometimes excercized best through federal control. BTW, I think Ronald Reagan's claim that the government is the enemy was one of the most subversive statements ever made. Given that in our system the power of govenment is directly an expression of the power of individual citizens Reagan's statement really means that the enemy is the people.
I think I would rather write about something photographic, or if it must be off topic, perhaps bass-reflex loudspeaker enclosures.
If you look at the Pacific ocean on a globe California is the RIGHT coast.
