If Marc is the perfectionist that he appears to be, he'd almost certainly
need to do the first printing in-house so that he could judge his work as a
print and not just on screen. Then, after satisfying himself that his
PS adjustments were to his liking as reflected by his print he could send the
file out for larger prints. Since his printer would be profiled as well
as his monitor he could reasonably expect the prints to be extremely close
to his own output.

Marc,

Labs like West Coast Imaging have world class printers and scanners (both
the hardware and the employees!) They will make proofs for you, they will
do
Photoshop work, and so on. Film original or digital capture...doesn't
matter.

In other words, if you set up your workflow properly and get to know the
lab
and its people, you can minimize your expenses while getting world class
quality that most individuals could never afford nor justify if they were
self-funding all that equipment and overhead.

It has been a true win-win situation for me.

If you've never seen a large print produced by a Chromira printer, prepare
to be blown away. These printers expose photographic paper via LEDs which
is then processed in R4A chemicals.
