[rollei_list] Contax S family- condition: Peter Dechert's Monographs On-Line

Marc: I 've been collecting Contax S, D, et al for more than 20 years and ,
frankly, most have been not found working well at all. Whether this is
always attributable to mishandling of shutter cocking/film advance routines
as Dechert asserts, is open to discussion. But, I think he's on to
something. Jerry

Marc,
Thanks for those interesting links to German camera history I do think the
Contax S family is one of the prettiest SLRs of all times* - if it only
had worked as well as it looked...
Hmm. I do respect Peter greatly as a scholar and I know his monograph and
have discussed it with him. But, to the contrary, I've yet to see a
Contax S that was not limping along quite well. I've never seen one which
had died. I just ran my own Contax D through the chimes, and it works
quite well, after all these years.
