I just wanted to add there is one zoom lens that I recommend for the serious landscape photographer who wants to travel light with their 1Dsmk 2. The contax zeiss 35-70/3.4 is just stellar and you can get copies for 350 to 450. mark
Hi Peter,
I went on a holiday in Iceland last August which involved lots of walking. I took my Mamiya 7 (Rollei 6008 & lenses too heavy) and a Canon EOS 1DsMk2 and a light collection of mainly prime lenses. Apart from the time taken producing nice scans, on a Nikon 8000 scanner, the difference in the results was astonishingly small. I certainly would not take serious landscapes using 35mm film and zoom lens.

I guess the real question is why are peope using 35mm for landscapes? Something like that is much better with a medium format camera? Rolleiwide perhaps?
