[rollei_list] Re: 3,5F (was: Veiling Flare)

From: John Owlett <owl@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
When I resume my search for a 3.5F
Whiteface, and I shall, am I the sort of person who would be better
served by the multicoated Planar rather than the single-coated
Xenotar? Or am I being confused by the teething problems with a
particular camera?

My 3,5F (serial number 2830512) is one of the last ones before the "white face" model. It has the six element Planar, and both meters and feet on the focusing knob. When I got it (in 1991 or so) I sent it back for adjustments under warranty. It didn't focus correctly, and the lightmeter was off by a stop. Now it's my best Rolleiflex. Extremely sharp already at 5,6, and superb contrast.

If you aren't a collector that "needs" the white face model (the same camera as mine, but with another front plate), a late 3,5F is just as good. Look for one with a distance scale in both meters and feet.

My Rolleiflex Standard (3,5 Tessar) is in almost mint condition, and it's also one of my favorites.
