[rodgersorgan] Re: rodgersorgan Digest V1 #41

 Jim,
I must have missed that snooty (hate to use the other word) response. But the
answer you seek will require a bit of research on your own. I would suggest
connecting your computer to the MIDI out ports of your Allen (using a MIDIMAN
PORTMAN or Roland USB-1), and then capture the information transmitted out
using a MIDI analysis program such as MIDI OX, or MIDIHACK, which are shareware
programs available on the net.
What I believe you will find is that the Allen relies on MIDI Program Changes
(pretty much what the Rodgers does when selected to transmit and receive
"Pistons Only"), whereas the Rodgers and PR-300S are made marvelously
compatible through the use of System Exclusive or SYSEX messages, which
represent a "higher level language" of MIDI.
Once you have explored what your Allen transmits (i.e., what messages, what
channels), then you should be able to set up the PR-300 to maximize the
potential.
Regards,
Ed Wilson

I, as an Allen owner (at home), also would love to hear a progress report.
But the last time I requested that on this site, all I got was a snotty
reply that I should "trade my Allen for a Rodgers". I was disappointed in
the lack of professionalism, but that's the world we live in . . .

I am fortunate enough to play a new Rodgers 967 with PR300s at church and a
new 3-manual Allen 360 at home. They are both modern musical marvels,
giving me the best of both worlds.

I would appreciate any info on connecting something like a PR300s to my
Allen.

And I am hopeful that this site continues to provide a place to exchange
objective information useful to all organists.

It's a lot better than the Oxford 945 I used to play.
