[rodgersorganusers] Re: invisible organists

Hello

My 2 cents worth on this subject - I play a Rodgers 905 with a PR300 at a
church where I do not have the luxury of an assistant. On several occasions
I have sequenced music for the entire service when I'm going to be away.
Then a non-musician simply dials to the next element of the service and
presses the play button at the appropriate time in the service. Obviously,
I haven't been present to listen to the result; however, I'm told that the
result is very satisfactory.

Noel,
I think you are treading on dangerous ground with this and are
opening up Pandora's box.
While you seem to be taking a cautious approach, I believe that
it still sets a dangerous precedent. There's nothing wrong with
doing without organ music (pre, post or within the service.)
After all, that is done by a number of denominations during Advent
and Lent. I would also add that unison or a cappella part singing
by the congregation can be a very moving experience for those involved.
Anyway, that's my unasked for two cents worth. I wonder how others
on the list feel about it.
Best regards to you and the list from an unseasonal warm, rainy
Maine.

Subject: [rodgersorganusers] The Invisible Organist

For a year now we have been serving as Invisible Rodgers Organists
at a test group fo churches... [snip] ...
This is a project we have approached with much trepidation, for we have no
interest in replacing live organists with midi disks.
At this point we are supplying custom midi files on request.

Now we are zeroing in on a specific need, the church with a early
service that does not have an organist but does have a committed
volunteer who would like to assist in bringing music to this
  congregation.... [snip] ...
