[rodgersorgan] Re: Wedding Survey

Greetings to all from south Florida! I felt the need to join the discussion
on wedding/funeral fees. My church collects a general fee from couples PRIOR
to the wedding day. This fee covers the minister/organist/custodian/use of
church. The fee is around $400. The organist is paid $125 for the wedding
ceremony. I rarely attend a rehearsal unless there is a soloist..then I tag
on at least $25 for my time. As far as funerals, the local funeral homes
have a plan worked out with the churches....the organist's fee is included
in the funeral home costs...thus I am paid by one of the funeral home
assistants prior to the service..avoiding uncomfortable confrontations with
grieving ones...The plan works beautifully!

And as far as concerns over charging for these services...my mom told me "
Your family invested a lot in your musical training you deserve to be
compensated for your work- the pastor gets paid, the doctor gets paid, the
teacher gets paid...and all are in those professions by choice and a
calling".....
