[rodgersorgan] Re: Wedding Survey

Ok - I'll jump into this fray -  I don't do weddings.  I got this way 
due to people "taking control" - mothers of brides and grooms, brides 
and grooms, best men and bridesmaids, trying to continue a processional 
for the ring bearer/flower children to make it all the way down the isle 
without stopping along the way or having stage fright,  soloists singing 
country western style (sorry  - not to step on any toes out there), 
changing of music at last minute - and of course not getting paid.  When 
I get pressured to play at weddings - I role out an exorbitant fee list 
from cost per song to be played (more if I have to buy the music or 
learn new stuff) to number of rehearsals that I am required to show up 
for (I require at least one rehearsal without wedding party - with the 
soloist) to the "flat fee" for me just to be there with all my 
experience.  Since coming up with this fee structure - I have had no 
takers.   Previously I was spending most of June (and other months)  
inside Church just for weddings.   I'll gladly do funerals - there the 
people are appreciative of what you are doing for them.  In our parish 
(Catholic) and I think the Protestant churches have the same thing going 
for them - the funeral home director pays us directly - right before or 
after the service he hands us an envelope.  I know that this causes a 
hardship on wedding parties to "find and organist"....but my sanity is 
worth a lot more as I have grown older.
