[rodgersorgan] Re: Transposer

as odd as this may sound, I can't use the transposer. First of all, I have
perfect pitch, so playing in one key and hearing it in another throws me off.
If I'm holding a C Major chord, and I hear something else, it rubs me the wrong
way....like nails on a blackboard! Mind you, I can transpose at sight, so I
really don't need a transposer anyway. I can honestly say that in all the years
of playing in churches, I can count on one hand, the number of times I've had
to transpose anything. The only thing one would really have to transpose would
be hymns, since some are not written with the congregation in mind. Solo organ
music is never transposed, and most choral work is in comfortable keys.
Transposing choral work is actually a bad thing, especially if you're dealing
with an SATB choir. The soprano line may be too high, but then after
transposing it, the bass line might be too low, etc.

Also, some pipe organs had transposers long ago, such as the Ruffatti at Coral
Ridge. It was built in 1974. Casavant offers transposers on their organs, both
new and old....if you're willing to pay.
