[rodgersorgan] Re: Toccata & Fugue in D Minor - Bach

Bear in mind:
1. Articles in various journals contend that the piece was originally
written for violin solo...let this be your guide in tempo, phrasing, etc.,
when "adapting" it to organ.
2. Similar articles contend that Bach didn't write it at all, or he adapted
it from somebody else's violin solo, or etc.
3. Half the people who hear you play it will think it's wonderful, they
love it, and they will admire you for playing such a great work of art.
4. The other half will mutter "Trash...he's playing down to the
audience...we are not impressed."
5. The piece is easier to learn and play than some other Bach stuff, but
please consider the Pass & Fugue in c, the Toccata (bag the Fugue) in F, the
Toccata, Adagio and Fugue in C, the St. Anne Fugue (bag the Prelude) in
E-flat, the Prelude and Fugue in D, etc, etc...just better stuff.
6. Do you care? If YOU like it, go for it!
