I'm the husband of the organist in the family. I enjoy organ music, and
am the more technically oriented. I do recall when a list member was
ill for a period of time, no substitute was available, and members of
the list offered to contribute files to fill in. My wife has a history
of significant health problems, and one reason for purchase of the PR300
was that it could serve in a pinch if she was unable to play and we
could not find a last minute substitute. Fortunately, she is in a
rotation with a couple of pianists, and that has not happened; I have
not ever had to assist the "invisible organist." The head elder in our
church did buy a collection of hymn files for use in a Roland our church
bought about 15 years ago (before we joined) in case no one was
available. We have never used them, so he donated them to a church in
Mexico last year. The only one to use a .mid file 'til now was a
visiting vocalist whose accompanist could not come. So, he used a file
she had created. She was real, and did accompany him on other
occasions.
As a violinist, I have benefited from hearing recordings of music I was
learning, as has my wife. I have used music minus one to rehearse. For
a performance, I very much prefer a human who can respond in real time
and help shape the music to the situation; nevertheless, many vocalists
bring accompaniments on disk or tape. (Now, if you want to replace
something....)
We have a Rodgers 535 at home, and I have really enjoyed the "invisible
organist" selections, as has my wife. They are great for learning, and
just great for listening. We really appreciate them, and we would be
interested in learning more.

Subject: [rodgersorganusers] The Invisible Organist
For a year now we have been serving as Invisible Rodgers Organists at a
test group fo churches.
For churches without organists, for organists unable to devote the time
to getting the Widor ready for a Wedding, for organist/directors who
want to get their hands free and direct the choir! Also, for organist
directors who need to be with the choir, the Preludes disk sets may be
of interest - 15' minutes of music so you cna be with your choir.
This is a project we have approached with much trepidation, for we have
no interest in replacing live organists with midi disks.
At this point we are supplying custom midi files on request.
Now we are zeroing in on a specific need, the church with a early
service that does not have an organist but does have a committed
volunteer who would like to assist in bringing music to this
congregation.
If this project might assist you and your church, please contact us for
more information.
