[rodgersorgan] Sightreading, pitches, etc.

1. I memorize easily, and have difficulty sight reading.
2. I "touch type" and can't imagine doing it otherwise--looking slows me =
down.
3. I'm an engineer by education, with much exposure to various mathematics =
and sciences, a marketing manager by profession, and an organist by =
hobby.
4. My relative sense of pitch is horrible--a friend told me not only can I =
sing off key, but play the organ off key as well--but my absolute sense is =
a bit better.=20
Here's an interesting associated idea: I think in sound. When I read, I =
hear the words. I don't think all people do this--some people I've =
discussed this with think in "feelings", others likely in ideas. I'd be =
interested if the "sight readers" and the "memorizers/practicers" think in =
different terms.
Then there are those that play by ear and don't read music at all. They =
must really think in sounds.
By the way. how can you sight read after the first pass at a piece? Any =
additional work is no longer sight reading, right?
Best regards,
Charlie
