[rodgersorgan] Rodgers in BYU Lab

Looking at an organ as part of a network would make Rodgers an obvious
choice due to the close adherence to the MIDI Standard...as a result of
the close partnership between Rodgers and Roland. Recalling the
difficulties that occurred in the computer control of the organ at Notre
Dame by a main frame computer some 60 miles distant (all successfully
overcome) I would hate to have to try to interface anything other than a
Rodgers into a network.

Not that it cannot be done by other builders, but the Rodgers interface
is a bit more seamless than others. On occasion I have interfaced
existing MIDI equipment with a Rodgers, and have always (knock on wood)
been successful to some degree. The consultants used by BYU have a
well-rounded view of organs being manufactured as they serve (I am told)
on a board that makes purchasing decisions for churches of that
denomination worldwide and do not purchase Rodgers exclusively...which
makes the choice of Rodgers for the BYU lab even more impressive.

Along those lines, I know that we have a number of members who, at home
and church, interface non-Roland/Rodgers equipment with their
instruments. How about a progress report? this can inspire others to
take the plunge.

Does anyone routinely hit record prior to performing improvisations?
