[rodgersorgan] Re: Rodgers Console and Auto Tuning Device

Hi Ed,

If the Baltimore installation you are speaking of is the same one I am
thinking, (pictured in the installations section of the Rodgers website)
the console looks like that of a 945 or 955 vintage. Prior to the newer,
larger, more luxurious console cabinets as we currently have.

A minor point. :-)

Cheers,

Dan Amorim

By the way, Carlo, this installation happens to be a 960 with
(to my recollection) 19R of Moller pipes. Fred Swann played the
dedication, and the instrument was highlighted on one of the Rodgers
marketing posters.
Rodgers has just released the (long awaited) automatic tuning
device. Hookup takes only a few minutes. Temperature is sensed at the
mouth of a representative pipe (i.e., one that puts out air frequently).
So something like Principal 8' middle C works well unless you prefer to
play in G# or Db most of the time. We have installed a couple of dozen
proto units (including Bel Aire) over the last few weeks, and the
released product is now ready.
        Best regards,
        Ed

        Carlo,

I was recently in Baltimore where I had a chance to
play the instrument at the Cathedral of the
Incarnation. A substantial amount of it is pipes but
the digital additions are also numerous.

Tuning is handled by a small knob, and a card on the
music rack explains (for visiting organists) how two
draw two stops in the same division and fiddle with
the knob until the beats stop. This requires a few
seconds when the organ is turned on and then usually
needs no further attention for the day.

The variety and felxibility of the resources are both
cause for delight and the full ensemble is completely
        satisfying.

I wasted a few minutes trying to figure out which
stops were "real" and which were digital, but when
that game proved far too challenging I finally decided
that as long as a stop was MUSICAL then it was as real
as any stop needed to be! For the rest of my visit I
just enjoyed the organ--ALL of it!

        Go fot it!

        (I'm sure that lifting the console can be managed;
there are devices for that purpose. I'm also pretty
sure that speakers at the sanctuary end could be kept
from view, so don't rule that out without consulting
        your local dealer.)

        Best,

        Dan
