Regarding the comment "That's fine, wonderful, etc. but now we need to
make it "music". ", i had the same statement made to me once. I do not sight
read well at all. Most of my learning music is through repetition and
memorization. When I FINALY got Bach's infamous T+F down i was so proud until
my mentor quoted the same at one point. This however was one of the best
things anyone could say as through my travels to different organs, i was able
to put asside my depression at not being able to read so well with the fact
that i found i could not only "make music of it" but also adjust quite well to
very different acoustics and instrument personalities easily. Of course
recording myself and playing it back helped a lot with the "music" part.

Noel & Jane....
I couldn't agree with your comments more about "sterile" playing and more.
It reminds me of my days of teaching organ and piano......many times I had
students that read the notes perfectly and performed the piece to perfection
and then I would tell them, That's fine, wonderful, etc. but now we need to
make it "music". They would look at me strangely and then we would proceed
with the rest of the preparation. also reminds me once of a comment my
mother made to me as a teenager..." you've played that piece well, but you
just haven't lived long enough!" I was so ticked with her at the time but
now I understand the meaning. Great comments....all of you.
