[rodgersorgan] Re: Postlude Suggestions

Was there ever a doubt in your minds regarding the impact we have on the people
in church? I like to look at it this way: We are there for the parents when
they bring their children into the world. We are there for the families as the
kids grow up. We aare there when the children get married, we are there when
the children bury their loved ones, and we are there when it is time to
communicate with God every Sunday in between the good times, and the bad, the
happy and the sad. We are there just the same, helping them, through our music,
playing to the Glory of God.

Thanks Noel for making note of that (pun intended). Rarely do I ever play
anything for a postlude that is not a hymn. I believe the people need to
leave
the church with a melody in their mind that is familiar to them. And many,
many times after I finish the postlude, I hear people humming that same tune
in
the hallways! Some even request that we sing that hymn the next Sunday. I
also try to select hymns which we have not sung recently, just to refresh the
melody in their minds. Yes, we as organists have a great impact on the
  congregation.
