Thanks Noel for making note of that (pun intended). Rarely do I ever play
anything for a postlude that is not a hymn. I believe the people need to leave
the church with a melody in their mind that is familiar to them. And many,
many times after I finish the postlude, I hear people humming that same tune in
the hallways! Some even request that we sing that hymn the next Sunday. I
also try to select hymns which we have not sung recently, just to refresh the
melody in their minds. Yes, we as organists have a great impact on the
congregation.
