Unfortunately I do not have "perfect pitch". I admire those who can hear a
note and they
identify it exactly. But since our music scale is based on A being 440 Hz
what about
those whose A is not 440 but different as it was in European scales of a
couple of centuries
ago. Did they have "perfect pitch" based on a different scale? I presume
that those
who have perfect pitch today do so from their inherent ability to relate
what they hear
to the musical scale that we are trained to use.

My "hearing" the melody and chords is an approximation to the frequency at
which I will play
what I "hear". For example, if I "hear" in my head a melody and I perceive
it to be in the key
of F, when I sit down at the organ and play what I "hear" in the key of
F,it may turn out that my "hearing" was off
by a semitone. So I guess I mentally transpose to the key of F to
play. Have I made myself
clear or only muddied it up?

Jack
