<< What about the all pipe Rodgers organs? Don't they make them without any
electronic sounds? So, if I had one would a pipe purist look down upon
simply
because I said I have a Rodgers organ? >>

Clark, so interesting that you brought that subject up! I have given up on
most of the AGO people, simply because of their "purist" thoughts. Living
here in Houston, let me give you (and others) a quick thought back in time.
As most of you know, Second Baptist Church, Houston, has a huge 5-manual
Rodgers Pipe Organ. The dedication of this instrument happened to be at the
same time as the AGO National Convention was here in town. There were 2
nights for the dedication (even though the sanctuary seats 7,500), and each
night was packed, many people from the AGO coming to "investigate" a Rodgers
Pipe! Only hours before the first program, it was discovered that the
combination action of the organ had been messed with, and Rodgers had to fly
parts from the factory to Houston special, get a helicoptor then to fly the
parts to the church parking lot, and have the organ working in time for the
dedication program. I have played this organ many times, and can you imagine
trying to play a program or service with NO combination action, especially on
an instrument of this size? Well, the programs were great, and everything
worked. Strangely enough, most folks still don't know that there are "6"
stops
on this organ that are "electronic"!!!! Plus, it has a sequencer!
The sad part about this organ.....the church does not appreciate the
instrument enough to have concerts/recitals very often. Even in their
television broadcasts, you see and hear more orchestra than the organ. So, in
closing, no, most people will never know which is pipe, electronic,
digital........and the purist can just sit there trying to figure it out!
Let's make music!
