I think you have to establish some level of trust with
your dealership. I realize most dealers don't stock
the 8 or 10 models like we tend to do. I know dealers
who will put instruments on a truck and take to a
customer - dealers who don't have showrooms. And, if
I were looking to spend the level of money we are
generally discussing, I would drive to hear that
instrument regardless. I have customers who drive 2
200 miles plus to my showroom. I also get calls from
people outside my assigned market area and I WILL NOT
quote prices to them. Rodgers dealers are not
franchised, they are manufacturers reps. I work very
hard to maintain a personal level of integrity with my
pricing. This is a small business and we dealers
cannot afford to rip one church off and then give it
away to another. With respect to a basic self
contained organ, I would be willing to give out a
price over the phone to a known customer within my
assigned market area ONLY. I won't give prices to a
church who will NOT take time to go listen to my
presentation. They are just price shopping and I will
not participate in that. I was told 31 years ago when
I started with Rodgers that "Neither Price Nor Product
Determine the Sale".
