[rodgersorganusers] Re: Internet Organ Pricing, etc.

I for one take your point, Jim, about the custom aspects of pricing. I
also know that it is the dealer, not the home office, who bears the
labor cost of warranty service (not parts), and this must be figured
into the initial cost.

At the same time, through an odd chain of circumstances, I do have some
inside knowledge of the dealer cost scene for digital organs, and have
to report that there are some genuine horror stories of grossly inflated
prices (the worst ones are _not_ Rodgers, happily) because the buyers
didn't know better. There really can be nothing wrong with a person
knowing the general market for all makes of digital, especially as this
group knows that that Rodgers provides more value for the dollar :-) It
is especially because your territories are exclusive that the consumer
needs some knowledge of what the fair market price is.

I have bought Rodgers for my churches. Subsequently I bought two in my
home because I ended up trusting the dealer, and would agree that this
relationship comes first, and is vital in voicing and tweaking stage of
the deal. But I would also add that the dealer I have most recently done
business with was very up front about how he priced his instrument, and
that left me feeling more, not less, confident in him and in my decision
to purchase. (I recognize that many churches don't believe anybody
should make a profit, but they can get over it!)

Quite seriously, perhaps on this very e-list we should all just post
what model organ we have, the accessories, the kind of installation, and
what we paid, and keep a updated database. Now _that_ would be a users'
group.

I completely disagree with pricing and speaker complement suggestions
available on the Internet. The speaker complements and organ model
depend on the installation and a dealer's pricing is subject to many
variables too lengthy to go in to here. Prices should NEVER be available
from the Rodgers Web Page. Organ installations are custom and planned
for the building size, acoustics, etc. Pricing should only be done on an
individual basis. Thanks,
