[rodgersorgan] Re: Id reasing lips really a requirement for being a church organist?

I was substituting at a church, one that sings the Greatorex Gloria Patri
every Sunday right after the opening prayers...naturally, I know it by
heart, no need for the music...uh-huh...so per their custom, I just played a
big chord to give them the pitch, and we're off...really off...it was a G
major chord, OK for the Doxology, NOT OK for Greatorex...you can imagine the
screeching as the congregation tried to hit high F# and G at the end.

My former church was celebrating 10th anniversary...brought in big name
organist for recital, also rented another organ so we could do duets and
concertos...neither instrument was a Rodgers, I'm happy to say, because at
one point my organ refused to sound...guest organist kept playing...I ran
over to his console to discuss strategy...he indicated show must go on...I
returned to my console...someone in the audience came up, gave my organ a
thumping good kick, it responded forthwith, audience applauded, concert
continued without further ado.

I was accompanying local community chorus in big annual Messiah concert,
broadcast over local radio station...every organist's nightmare came true
when during the pause at the end of the Halleluia Chorus, I reached my right
foot over to hit the Full Organ toe piston, scraped my foot across several
upper pedal keys en route...BLAT!!...the moment was taped by the radio
station and rebroadcast for those who might have missed it live.

And there was the big fancy wedding...bride was fashion editor of major
newspaper...social event of the season...evening wedding...she got about
half way down the aisle, everyone agog at her dress with LONG train...power
went out, church in darkness except for candles...bride hysterical...priest
calmly continued the service by candlelight...it was magical...I think the
good Lord did it to help us get the emphasis off her gown and onto the
religious point at hand.
