I have received a flurry of Felix Hell messages...but must ask that we confine
the discussion to the
acoustical challenge of playing an organ in a room that is organ-unfriendly.
I have personally heard a Dutch organist of some renown fall apart while
trying to play a program in
an American church with dry acoustics...sort of like playing a piano without
the use of the sustain
pedal.
As far as Felix...there is an ongoing discussion at piporg-l that tracks his
playing and performance,
the link to piporg-l is on our website. Why am I staying away from a discussion
of Felix? Like Fox,
controversy is making his career and bringing many people to hear the organ. I
was surprised that a
recent organ competition failed to award Felix with any award whatsoever....
Possibly it is time to begin having organ competitions played behind screens as
the orchestral
auditions back in the 50's and 60's when women were first let into major
orchestras...a good stage
manager was wise enough to warn them to leave their high heels in the wings...
What do I do with messages that I don't post..I read them, often enjoy them...
