Mark N. asked about adding a subwoofer to his Rodgers organ which now has
only internal speakers. From Mark's posts on the Rodgers and EORG sites, I
gather that he is also adding an Ahlborn module with has 32' stops and
therefore
needs to have response to 16 Hz.
Although I do not have one myself, I had a strong recommendation from Quent
Smith of Storey and Clyde organs for the SVS subwoofers. Their 16-46 PCi model
is internally amplified and is specified down to 16 Hz (+/- 3 dB)
specifically to be able to reproduce the deepest organ tones. It has an
internal 320
watt amplifier.
The downside of any speaker that will go that low is that it simply has to
have adequate internal air volume. In this case, the speaker is a cylinder 16"
diameter that stands 46" high. Their web site www.svsubwoofers.com lists the
price as $649. They make models with higher power levels for driving larger
rooms and concert halls, but this one seems ideal for a home or small studio.
That is the least expensive speaker I have been able to locate so far that
will reproduce the fundamental of a 32' flue.
