just a musing really..
i want to test out my test firewall against a packet storm. part of the
rule set denies packets from unknown mac addresses, but i want to know
just how well this stands up.
is it possible to change the mac address of a packet when it leaves? i
dont want to send a packet, then call
ifconfig eth0 hw ether FF:DE:AD:BE:EF:FF :)
that's probably going to take far too long to produce anything worthy
of a stress test.
what i'm after is a means of changing the mac address of the packet as
it's written out. does the drive put this into the packet or is it
software based, since SO_BROADCAST will set the destination mac
address, i'm guessing that there has to be someway of doing this in
software without requiring root.
