They have worked in groups to research these controversial issues ranging from euthanasia to Guantánamo Bay, interviewed policy experts and the general public on the topics, developed a policy paper, and designed Power point presentations. Students also compiled media kits (PSA, web site, brochure, and poster). We took the entire 10th grade to Washington, D.C. to expose them to interactions with public policy experts concerning their specific topics. We would like to challenge the students to carry themselves in the fashion of those experts they encountered. To achieve this, we would like to have committees (parents, faculty, and outside evaluators) evaluate their policy and advocacy projects. We will hold presentations on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 from 4:15 until 6:15 p.m. at Institute for Collaborative Education (345 East 15th Street). Please note that there will be two 1 hour rounds of evalutation. You can participate in one or both of them. No prior knowledge of these human rights issues is needed. Interested parties will be asked to evaluate the informative, analytic, creative, and evidence-based nature of the student presentations. If you are interested and would like more information, please email the 10th grade Humanities teachers, Imani (imani.matthews@xxxxxxxxx) or Katie (ch78@xxxxxxx).
