Yup. If you're using the web to download books it's:

Is that available from nls?

Yeah, I didn't think of that. You do have a kind of Henly voice. But at least you don't have his attitude. I just read: Heaven and Hell, My Life in the Eagles, by Don Felder. It's amazing they stayed together as long as they did. It sure was an interesting read.

Yeah, I think the key to the SM7B minimizing sibilance is the wind screens as well as the fact that the grill makes it impossible to kiss the capsule.

Yeh, but you sure got to roll off that low end for vocals, so the beta 58 does that already and I like the midrange on that thing for my voice, which has that Don Henly harshness, and the beta softens that a bit for me without being muddy.

but I like the way the sm7b handles the sibalant frequencies so you don't hardly have to d s.

It's that wind screen they use that does it, they claim.

Yeah, I have an SM7B and a stack of super clean pre's, including an AEA TRP, the ribbon pre. Although I've been playing around with it and settled on the FocusRite Voicemaster pro because it gives me a pretty much done signal going in, compressed, EQed, and a dash of tube emulation thrown in for good measure. It certainly has a nice big full sound. I can see why it's popular with broadcasters. Heck, I think it would be a respectable mic to use on a kick drum or bass amp as well.

Well, the sm7b is gonna be bigger sounding, and be more like a condenser in it's response, at the expense of not having as hot an out-put but big and smooth and
full sounding it sureley is.

One of your ribbon mic pres would work nicely with it if you ever got one.

But it is an expensive mic, so if you don't need one or want one, not an impulse buy 'grin'.

But if you need to make quiet recordings in a room not perfect, it's your baby.

Oh, okay. I was just curious if there was any real big difference, or, you just liked the beta more on your voice, etc. Guess I can't find an excuse to buy one. Heh!

I was just lazy and grabbed the beta 58.

One thing I like about that mic is that it doesn't need to be rolled off on the low end at all, it just generally sounds good for a basic vocal, and I put a little shimmer on the high end.

I still love the 7b though.

Sounds awesome as usual, Chris. Everything's nice and clean and yeah, that old guitar sure has a nice sparkle to it. Nah, you don't sound like an old hick when you talk. We're getting there, but we're not quite there yet. Ha!

One question. I'm just curious why you chose the beta 58 over the SM7B you rave about so much? I have the 7B but not the 58 so I can't compare them to hear the different vibe.

I did this for my wife, she loves gentle love balads and this old
John Denver tune is one of her favorites.

This is one of my first recordings with sonar 8.5.2

I love simple acoustic folk music uncomplicated and clean sometimes,
and for you guys who like this sort of thing enjoy,

I didn't use antares, or any really high tech glitz on this thing,
just a little comp and eq and a couple of dynamic microphones, all
tracked at the same time, one mic audix i5 on guitar, beta 58 on mouth.

Guitar mic was on the hot-spot of the guitar near the bridge, my old beat up acoustic I've had since high-school, old and dingged up like
yours truly but still singing 'grin'.

I love her best worn out fret board and dodgy machine heads and all.

Then I put the bass down and piano, which is true pianos that came with sonar.

Bass came from steinberg hypersonic2.

All the comp and mastering plugs are sonar native ones.
