Actually I emailed the question from work, the modem challenge was at home. The 
member of my family still home today had a service call on it this afternoon 
and it turns out we needed to install a wireless card because the wire and 
cable weren't connecting up very well.

ok so lets see if we got it. Your cable box was not working, not your modem 
because after all you were able to email us to ask the question? FYI our cable 
box has been trying to update for months, the reason is that ours seems to be 
one of those that didn't like the updates. it's not hurting anything it just 
sits there all day and reboots.

One of these days when we have time we will go switch it out at the twc store.

also since ours is a dvr we will loose any programs that are recorded.

I think everything is now working for yah. glad to here that all is well.
