Jim,
Don't you have to select the table first? Sometimes, I find this to be the
hardest part of the process. Either I select too much or too little.

You can try converting the table to text.
In Word 2003:
While in Word, press Alt A to activate and pull down the Tables menu.
Down arrow until you hear, "Convert, submenu" and press right arrow.
You'll be presented with several options, and the one you want it Convert
Table to Text.
Usually, you can accept the defaults in this dialog and activate the OK
button.
