RESOURCES OF THE MONTH NOTICES AND REMINDERS COMMUNITY CALENDAR :::::: A NEW LOOK The Holy Cross Blind Outreach Newsletter is taking on a new look. This is to keep much of the articles you have seen before and add more community news. First, you will notice the GREETINGS section is cut back substantially in size, making room for newer material. A line colons now separates each section. This will make for easier navigation, especially with regard to the e-edition. DID YOU KNOW? Will cover anything from factoids to blindness related tips for day to day life. When possible the RESOURCES OF THE MONTH will include an item that is low-tech, not requiring a computer and high-tech item which will be available online or by download. NOTICES AND REMINDERS will no longer contain church only information for Holy Cross. That will in a new weekly church and community publication on the weekends. THE COMMUNITY CALENDAR will, when possible, begin including the addresses of various events along with phone numbers and contact info. :::::: GREETINGS Patriotism And Remembrance So, ¡§Where were you when the world stopped turning?¡¨ Even years after planes struck the World Trade Center, crashed into the Pentagon, and plummeted into a Pennsylvania field, we commemorated 9-11. The contrast could not have been more stark¡Xa blue sky over gray buildings, normal hustle and bustle turned into scurry and sadness. We mourned, and now we dance? Some of us flew our flags high on 9-11 while others visited memorials and paid tribute to fallen relatives. Even now, we all concern ourselves with our nation¡¦s future¡Xbeset by the terror wrought by radical Islam and a precarious economic downturn. We praise our soldiers and pray for our safety. God¡¦s Word does not prescribe a certain mood for us in our commemoration. Rather, it speaks to us in whatever condition we find ourselves. There is a time for tears as we mourn loss and a time for triumph as we celebrate American soldiers¡¦ courage. As surely as stones of fallen buildings scattered, our Lord gives us time to rebuild. We all, by nature, deserve nothing less than an untimely end, for our misuse of God¡¦s gifts has been lifelong. Nonetheless, God set a time for our redemption. For He sent His Son to take our sins away. Now, risen over death, Jesus redeems the time in which we live. No matter, then, our emotions or mood today, Jesus brings us the comfort and assurance of His grace. For He directs our days, actions, and hope in His peace. :::::: TRAVELING BLIND Our discussion/presentation on Saturday, September 24, deals with being blind and traveling. Have you traveled much on your own? Or, have held back because of having reservations about what might happen ¡§if?¡¨ We will discuss ways to overcome the perceived barriers in travel and share experiences of being out and about. :::::: DID YOU KNOW? The free monthly meal for the blind, held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church on the last Saturday of each month, is open to anyone? You don¡¦t even have to be a Christian to join us for lunch, and we aren¡¦t in the business of cohersing anyone to join anything. We¡¦d simply love having you join us from 12:00-2:00 for dinner and other activities on the last Saturday of the month. Yes, we do have a time of devotion right after lunch. Through it, we desire to encourage you and meet your needs. :::::: RESOURCES OF THE MONTH It¡¦s never too early to start planning for 2012¡Xwith a calendar in braille or large print. THE Lutheran Blind Mission will send you a free, braille or large print calendar upon rerequest. Call 888-215-2455. In this calendar, you will find the days of month along with a list of holidays. In this periodical, you will find news for the blindness and greater disability communities, selected events around Kansas City accessible by public transit, and other items you may also wish to submit. At its beginning, I will be sending the edition to the various list serves. If you would like an edition sent to you individually, please, email me at lutheranmessenger@xxxxxxxxxx In the future, I wish to add a brailled edition as well.
