You can usually get either .TXT or .HTM files. I haven't looked at the site in
a while so there may even be more options now. You certainly do not have to
pay. That is the focus of the project, to get reading materials into the hands
of people at no charge.

Are they just text files and don't you have to pay for it all?

You do not need a key for those.

I think you need a key for them on your stream. And I think you have to pay
for it.

Hello all, One of many sources of content for the stream I am quite
curious about is something called project guttenberg. I wonder if anyone
has used this site, I have been using NLS downloads, RFB and D, and
Bookshare, but I have not yet explored Project guttenberg. Thanks, Ginnie

To answer both of your questions in one message:

1) Can the stream read e-books that are .TXT files?

Yes, as long as they are truly .TXT files, and not some odd flavor.

2) Can the Stream read .DOC files?

Only if you purchase the add-on pack. It will allow the Stream to read Word
documents. I believe the Stream Companion will automatically convert Word
documents into a different format when it transfers files to the Stream, but
that is a different story.

The Stream will read HTML or RTF files, so I would recommend saving your
Word documents as either RTF or Web Page Filtered and transfer those to the
Stream.

Also, can the stream read .doc files from Microsoft word?

Hi Duyahn, text files play just fine on the stream.
Are you talking about some of the public domain books that are available
from various sources?
I'm asking because many Ebooks are PDF files, but text files should play
just fine, and I've always had the best luck placing them right in the
.TEXT folder.
