Invite to attend Re:transmission

The Mission?
To transmit on all frequencies and keep control of our
video, music and other culture at the same time. To
network with other independent artists, video makers,
and multi media producers who have no wish to be used
and abused by the corporate world. To build the
networks and tools to keep it underground.

The Venues?
London - Location: Limehouse Town Hall, London,
British Film Institute and RampArt Social Centre

Dates: Friday 13th – Sunday 15th October, 2006

Did you ever get the feeling your brain was being
sucked out of your McSkull by a corporate straw? Well
you're right! The internet, an exploding area of
culture and resistance is being trawled by big
business. Myspace is a factory of willing lab-rats all
trying to crawl over each other to be noticed by some
sad-ass corporate A&R man. The model stinks, until the
internet community kicked up some shit, every time you
posted audio or video there, you signed away all yoru
rights to them! And it's owned by Rupert Murdoch for
fuck's sake. It's heartbreaking to see people involved
in vibrant independent music and video scenes use this
service.

You tube, the video site, is just that a huge tube
vaccuming up your independent video and repackaging it
next to their adverts. Their copyright policy is also
dodgy. Same with Google Video, sorry to say!

The truth is tho' for Video makers and musicians is
that, while these services are there, and *Effective*,
they will continue to get used. This social and
cultural networking sites are not a fad, they are a
phenomenon! If you ask someone to drop using Myspace /
You Tube and they'll say "Fuck you, what's the
alternative?"

But - there *are* alternatives, and much sounder, and
more underground alternatives. The internet didn't
come around by people sitting on their broadband
connections and being lazy. Get your head into these
alternatives and your content is likely to remain
independent. You dont' have to be involved in
something that fucks people over to survive. In fact
if we get together and sort it out we will continue to
thrive.

That is what this gathering is all about. Read on for

This event which aims to raise the game of
non-corporate reporting of event, video project
collaboration, and widespread distribution of
independent content. You are invited to join us.

Earlier this year thirty groups met in Rome for four
days of intensive workshops, discussions, screenings
and presentations to identify key infrastructural
needs of video based alternative media distribution.
The Transmission event provided a vibrant
cross-pollination of projects in the wider context of
Internet communication; for reports see

Based on existing work by groups active in the field
for many years, the meeting successfully identified a
clear set of projects required for alternative media
groups to collaborate on, with the goal of overcoming
infrastructural problems of increasing visibility and
cooperation.

This event is entitled 'Re:Transmission' because
participants will be passing on and developing some of
the ideas, contacts, plans and processes begun at the
Rome Transmission meeting.

Citizen journalism and independent artists
representing themselves on-line is a major focus of
this event. As we witness the growth of
user-contributed content, people continue to blog,
upload, pirate, learn. The Free Open Source Software
community has provided a wide number of production and
distribution tool on the Net, while the Creative
Commons copyleft licence offers a way to share content
without commercial exploitation. The event has been
organised to add to the work of these and other
communities to contribute to the building of real
world usable tools for distributing and sharing video
online.

The gathering is participant-run and will made up of
discussions, workshops, screenings, trainings,
presentations and a 24/7 lab.

All welcome but training and workshop places are
limited so please book early.

programme of contextualised screenings explores the
emergence of citizen video reporting on the Net.

that we make, distribute and watch moving-image,
creating new opportunites for participation,
collaboration and content-sharing.
