I'd really like to be able to keep a racktable view in sync with data
from opennms and ocsinventory-ng, each of which maintain their own
databases.
Things have changed to better since April, if you are going to write
own script. But the first thing you need to decide on is which data you
want to sync in which direction.
I'm open to suggestions, but I think it would be ideal for servers to
add the location info as a user-defined field in the ocsinventory system
where the people setting up systems already make some entries, then
frequently (daily?) update from that database into racktables. The
ocsinventory system has an agent on each host that keeps the database
updated with hardware and software changes so it would pick up things
like IP address changes, etc., automatically. On the other hand,
opennms knows a lot more about the routers and switches so I'd need a
similar but different sweep through that database without clobbering the
identifiers in the racktables db.
And, of course, all of the database schemas are subject to change by
someone else.
