I would suggest to create an extra rack labeled as "desk" or similar and add
them there.

I'm doing that in this way: I add the machine to RackTable just like every
other machine, and the asset tag is labeled like 'spare-28371', so i can
search for "spare" and list all spare machines.

Most tasks can be archived some way with the present system :)
