Well yes basically it's just an extension of a cable, so if you wan't to know only the cable connections between active elements you can discard the information of the path through patch panel. But in this case it make no sense having the patchpanels in the database. 
But if you wan't to be able to follow the cable, you need this information.
Anyway, I can live without this feature, there is an easy workaround and I fully the software is great.

This option makes little sense to me. If you have port x on a patch panel it is a given that it connects to port x on a different patch panel, if it does not then you have a problem. to me basically it is an extension of a cable.
I am not sure that it is worth the time and effort that could be used to further develop this GREAT software.
