Searching in such filelds indeed makes sense. I am adding this request
to the current to-do list, it should eventually make its way to the
code. Fortunately, you don't have to wait for that.

MAC addresses are normally recorded for each port of an object, not for
the whole object itself. One can search for ports by MAC address, that
already works.
