I did an implementation of this using puppets[1] facter[2] for info
gathering. It is sort of limited to fetching objects and importing them.
I haven't had time to implement diff/modification yet.

If you don't like the yaml/puppet format you still might be able to use
the methods and framework for importing your own lists.
