Hello Pythonauts!
Sorry, I kind of just dropped off of the face of the python-earth for
awhile... Life and all that! I'm still not quite ready to catch up on
all of the python mailing list archives, but I noticed there were
some virtual axis posts back in October, so I thought that I should
mention that I'm still alive!
My "Vython" remains as it has been for quite some time -- rather
poorly aligned, and no seat! I have a carbon fiber seat, which I
purchased used with a small crack (from the Hostel Shoppe), and I
also have a vacuum pump, which I was planning to use to repair the
seat (later to make some carbon fiber recumbents), but I need to buy
the rest of the supplies -- fiber, epoxy, matting, hose, etc.
I'm still hopeful that I'll get around to it someday... Besides just
being really busy and caught up with other things, I think I was a
little discouraged by Laurent's conclusion that it wasn't viable, as
well as by the discovery that someone had come to the same conclusion
in the summer of 1978 (roughly 9 months before I was born!).
Never the less, I'd still like to try it myself! I'd also like to try
another approach, such as using a curved rail/track as the pivot -- I
imagine that it could be made reasonable strong and light with the
proper engineering (which would of course be far beyond my formal
training, but I'm an optimistic fellow).
On a different note: I haven't been following the mailing list
closely for awhile, but on the few occasions when I've sat down and
read through a bunch of older postings, I've been inspired by all of
the new designs that have been created -- for example, I think that
Dirk's Baby Python is very cool! Keep up the good work everyone!
Michael
