Hi all,
As for the "bolts 'n screws only" approach, there's
www.einfaelle-statt-abfaelle.de (German language only) with quite some good
ideas for tandems, choppers and transport bikes. I bought the collection of
bike related issues (www.tinyurl.com/4zjzsd), it's (mostly) worth it.
I have a workshop, but welding is a problem for me, too. I can't tell what
minimum requirements a used machine would need to meet. I'm too stingy for a
new MIG/MAG or TIG, but too demanding to use my simple electrode welder.
Very low cost MIG/MAG/TIG machines are known for poor results and unwieldy
performance, particularly with thin bike tubes. I'd spend around 200-300 EUR
on Ebay, preferably for a used TIG (in Germany: WIG), if I knew what specs
to look for, and how to tell quality from scrap. Brazing is no option, as my
landlord wouldn't allow it.
Cheers,
Marek
