Is it really necessary to have certain joints for certain angles?

If the frame is made of triangles and the tubes have the right lengths,
a "universal joint" that can adjust to all angles should do it.

What do you think?

BTW: The carbon tube approach sounds similar to a recently rumored
Moulton development called "M-Dev":

They say the bike will come in kit form and can be customized by the
vendors. They use carbon rods clamped together between the joints by an
inner steel wire ("spoke").

Cheers, Christian
