Thank you; that's really helpful.
These designs don't allow for the adjustment of the axial loading that I was 
looking for, except that the worm design seems to implement some shims.
But the fact that these work tells me that maybe I don't need that adjustment.
I think I'll just tighten the assembly to the torque recommended for car 
wheels, and build the coupling to the rest of the frame to fit the dimension 
that results.

I haven't forgotten to provide you with photos and measurements of my python. 
I'm still adjusting; for instance, I shortened the wheel base last weekend, and 
I'm happy with the result. I'll apply some paint, make the measurements, 
photograph it and send all that to you soon.
