Hallo Olaf,
my original intention was to copy the airbike hammock seat and

building a normal seat.
The hammock seat happened to be reasonable comfy for my back at
distances upto 80 km. Riding more I would miss the lumbar support.
My answer for longer tours is stuffing the gap below the seat
with all sorts of soft things, like sleeping bag, tent and water
bag. This creates sufficient lumbar support and at the same time
is a solution for the storage of bulky equipment.
This does not sound ideal.
Other pro's of the seat are better ventilation and (when folded)
protection against rain and dirt, when the bike is parked.
A soft seat is also lighter than a hard shell, I suppose.
The con's are a battered look and less guidance support when
steering the bike. I confess.
Yes, I always suspected you were a masochist ... :D
