I usually start with the right foot on the pedal and left foot down - I push back with the left foot to help the start. Of course, I usually have a hand on the bars too...

second (really
important) look in the distance when riding, and not at the road or
the bike nearby.


I found that also, and still have a bad time turning my head to look behind.
