Hi,

after testing a tadpole trike last week, I know what people like
trikes for. Great handling, still quite fast, you feel safe and
comfortable even on slippery surfaces like snow. And you can ride
slow without ballance problems.

I startet to draw a first scetch of a Python-/hipparion-trike with
20-inch rearwheels and 16-inch frontwheel. It is qite narrow
(track = 700mm) to keep the air-resistance small and it is low
(200mm seat high)to keep cornering safe and fast. With budget and
reliability in mind I would use sachs drum brakes (modified for
stub axles) in the rear and sachs 3x7 in the front. Tubing is
40x40x1,5 for the main frame and fork-extension, 40x10x1,5 for the
front fork and 22x1,5 for seat-stays and handlebars. For the
steering-head-bearing I´d prefer timken-bearings
(Kegelrollenlager) in a solid size. Front brake will be a standard
V-brake. Crank is a 48 teeth MTB crank shortened to 150mm (I like
short cranks). Whith 12-28 gears and sachs 3x7 there is a real
speed range from 6 km/h up to 40 km/h. Tires will be Schwalbe Big
Apple for comfort in combination whith a quite low rolling
resistance. A steering dampener (VW Beetle, very cheap ;-) )
should cure high-speed instability.

I put a (really bad, sorry!) scan of my first drawing in the
"Anhang". I think I will shorten the wheelbase from 1050mm to
1000mm.
What do you think about this project? Some Changes needed? Thank
you for any input!

Cheers,
Christoph
